چکیده

This paper investigates and discusses the outcomes from an ongoing feasibility research being conducted at Advanced Composites Research Focused Group on 3D printing polymers carbon composites subjected to localised magnetic field force lines. Magnetic equipped composite processes are starting become important new development for structural applications. Specific this paper, in-situ alignment of short fibres (∼1 mm length) in thermoplastic polymer filaments (Onyx FR, a Nylon base with micro carbon-fibres flame retardant additive supplied by Markforged) during fused deposition modelling (FDM) based (MakerBot Replicator 2). An experiment took place which samples PLA onyx were printed, both without present. was done see what effects, if any, had flow orientation these materials when printed. The results using high-resolution optical microscopy scanning electron showed that while within Onyx aligned response field, visibly unchanged field. observations have been partially supported theoretical calculations utilizing Multiphysics constitutive equations.

UV-Assisted 3D Printing of Glass and Carbon Fiber-Reinforced Dual-Cure Polymer Composites

Glass (GFR) and carbon fiber-reinforced (CFR) dual-cure polymer composites fabricated by UV-assisted three-dimensional (UV-3D) printing are presented. The resin material combines an acrylic-based photocurable resin with a low temperature (140 °C) thermally-curable resin system based on bisphenol A diglycidyl ether as base component, an aliphatic anhydride (hexahydro-4-methylphthalic anhydride) ...

Natural Fibre Reinforced Biodegradable Polymer Composites

Currently, numerous research groups have explored the production and properties of biocomposites where the polymer matrices are derived from renewable resources such as poly lactide (PLA), thermoplastic starch (TPS), cellulose and polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs). This review is carried out to evaluate the development and properties of natural fibre reinforced biodegradable polymer composites. They...

Image Characterization of Carbon Fibre Reinforced Composites

A new methodology to detect fibres orientation in composite materials, using image processing tools is introduced. Several examples with manufacturing defects are studied using RIMAPS technique and the Variogram method. The characterization is made from digitized images of the samples. Combined use of RIMAPS and Variogram analyses identified the orientation of fibres and determined the values o...

Self-healing of damage in fibre-reinforced polymer-matrix composites.

Self-healing resin systems have been discussed for over a decade and four different technologies had been proposed. However, little work on their application as composite matrices has been published although this was one of the stated aims of the earliest work in the field. This paper reports on the optimization of a solid-state self-healing resin system and its subsequent use as a matrix for h...

Finite Element Analysis of Low Velocity Impact on Carbon Fibers/Carbon Nanotubes Reinforced Polymer Composites

An effort is made to gain insight on the effect of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) on the impact response of carbon fiber reinforced composites (CFRs) under low velocity impact. Certain amount of CNTs could lead improvements in mechanical properties of composites. In the present investigation, ABAQUS/Explicit finite element code (FEM) is employed to investigate various damages modes of nano composites ...
